Who’s the stylish brain behind Hold Your Breath? Suze is only 17 years old and already chosen as ‘upcoming fashion-editor’ by ELLE magazine in their 20-year-anniversary issue. This dutch girl has an outstanding style, gets inspired by everything she sees and is able to perfectly translate this into her outfits. With her dreamy pictures she shares her fashionsense with the rest of the world. Let’s get to know this girl a little bit better!
PLANET EARTH
Suze’s passions in life include fashion and photography: “I like to combine those two in photoshoots, which I post on my blog. Furthermore I’m a big music lover, going to a festival or a music concert is one of my favorite things to do”. But there’s more, we find out. Suze loves to explore the world: “I love to travel, my parents have taken me to many places around the world. I believe that’s a chance not many get, and I’m very grateful to them for showing me all the beautiful things of planet earth.”
FASHIONREBEL
Suze explains fashion hasn’t always been her passion. When she was four years old she moved to a very simple town in the Netherlands. When she grew up however, she started to notice that she was different. “It’s not that I wasn’t accepted, but I just wasn’t the average girl”, says Suze. “When I was about 13 years old, I had enough of all my hard work trying to blend in, and so I started rebelling. As a teenager there are only so many things that you can do to rebel against society. Since alcohol and drugs didn’t really do it for me”, adding sarcastically: “because we don’t want to end up in rehab do we?! Even if that means we would get to meet Lindsay…”, she continues serious again: “so when I walked into H&M the very first time of my life… I knew I had found what I was looking for. I could stand out from a crowd by wearing different clothes. A much cheaper and healthier rebellious act than using cocaine”, she laughs. “I tried a lot of different styles and started to get more and more interested in fashion… and that’s about the story”, she ends with a big grin.

INTERESTING INSPIRATION
Suze started her blog 3,5 years ago. That’s quite a while for a now 17 year old girl! When I asked Suze what inspired her to start her own blog she answers “Well, at the time I started my blog, blogging was less popular then it is now. I found a few Swedish blogs and really liked the idea of sharing your own style and your inspiration on the Internet.’’ She always had many inspiration scrapbooks, so Internet seemed like a good solution. “I believe inspiration is everywhere. It can be found on other blogs, the runway, magazine editorials, people I see on the street, movies, music or even some kind of painting. My favourite style icons are Alexa Chung, Chloe sevigny and Lou Doillon. But I also like stars from the past, like Birgitte Bardot, Edie Sedgwick and Jane Birkin.”
COOLEST FASHION EXPERIENCE
A popular blogger like Suze has the privilege to do things that ‘normal’ people don’t get the chance to. Like going to cool fashion party’s, get invited for showrooms and things like that. Let’s call that it ‘the blogger privilege’. What her coolest fashion experience is? “I actually have two,” she admits. “They both were for a magazine. The first is when I was a guest-editor at ELLEgirl, I styled my own editorial. The other one was for ELLE magazine, they chose me as their ‘upcoming fashion-editor’ in their 20-year-anniversairy issue. My worst experience is when I was invited to meet Scott Schuman from the Sartorialist. It was in the middle of my test-week so I couldn’t go, and I literally cried buckets… I mean, who gets to meet Scott Schuman and isn’t allowed to go?!”
NUMBER ONE STYLE RULE AND FAVOURITE ITEMS
Every Fashiolista has his or her own style rule when it comes to choosing an item. So has Suze: “If it’s a dress or a skirt it should never be over the knee… I like short things. It makes my legs look longer and I’ll take that extra bit since I’m not so tall myself. Furthermore I don’t have any specific rules, in my opinion fashion is about breaking the rules.”
ABSOLUTE MUSTHAVES ACCORDING TO SUZE:
- A pair of black ankle boots, because they go with everything.
- A printed tee, because it doesn’t look too serious.
- A perfect pair of blue jeans, because I can never find them.
- A big satchel, because a lot fits in.
- An off-white dress, for that instant cute look.

THE FUTURE
Seventeen-year-old Suze has a lot of dreams. ”I’d love to live in a cute house with a balcony in Camden, London.” And what kind of job will fit? She answers: ”Well, I’d like to see myself working at a fashion magazine as a fashion-editor. Maybe somewhere abroad? But anything creative will do.”
