News | Countdown till Paris

It’s been a little while since I’ve stopped working full time at Fashiolista. I’ve first enjoyed my holidays in the sun and then, back in Holland again, I’m now preparing for Paris where I am going to stay for almost half a year. This includes also desperately standing in front of the closet, not knowing what to take or what to leave. I surely would like to take my whole closet with me just – to make sure that I’ll look stylish any time in this capital city of fashion.

Well, it’s definitely not possible to put my entire closet into two (way too tiny) suitcases. There’s one thing to do: selection. And as I’ve read, French women must be master in fashion selection and extravagant minimalism.

So I’ve decided to go after the typical “5-piece-French-wardrobe”. That means that I should take five very classic and very basic pieces from my wardrobe in order to then combine those basics with a bit more extravagant high-street or even designer pieces and always look stylish and chic.

What are you falling for this fall?

It’s been long since we did a post on anything Beauty related, so here’s a new tips & tricks post. Make sure to check previous posts, like How to do a bright lip and A perfect curly hair tutorial.

Today we’d like to talk about “Practice what you preach”, because with so many beauty advice available on magazines and the Internet we sometimes forget to apply those to ourselves. Many of them fall under common sense but they’re easy to forget. How many times have you read It is important to drink 2,5 liters of water a day, and yet you still drink a couple glasses here and there. What about sunscreen? The truth about yo-yo diets? In need of a make-up and hair survival guide?

Black on white, white on black and in all other color combinations. This season, the Polkadot is back in fashion-business. Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney and many others picked the polka off the shelfs, dusted it off and made it stylish from edgy to feminime!

We love the new Polka. What do you think?

News | Paris vs NYC

08/24/2011 10:16 AM by Emilie | Fashiolista News

Photo | Paris vs NYC blog | Paris versus New York, a tally of two cities | Un match visuel amical entre ces deux villes, c’est le regard d’un amoureux de Paris sur un New York rempli de détails, de clichés et de contradictions: suivez le guide. A friendly visual match between two cities told by a lover of Paris wandering through NewYork. Details, clichés, contradictions: this way, please.

As you may have read on the Fashiolista blog, two of our loyal bloggers are leaving Amsterdam for adventures abroad. Maddie will explore the city of bagels & cupcakes, of Carrie Bradshaw & cosmopolitans, and of Ralph Lauren & Anna Wintour, whereas Mary is heading to the city of baguettes & macarons, of Amélie Poulain & bordeaux wine, and of Jean-Paul Gaultier & Sonia Rykiel. New York City and Paris; two places that are unmistakably attached to fashion, both in their very own way with their very own traditions. No better blog to visually describe these ‘cultural clashes’ better, than the Paris vs NYC blog by graphic designer Vahram, a guy from Paris, living in New York.

It will be rather silent around the Fashiolista HQ without Mary and Maddie, however, we wish them all the luck in the world and lots of fashion fun. Luckily, both Mary as Maddie will keep blogging for Fashiolista, so that we can stay updated on their fabulous fashion fairytales and stylish stories. NYC and Paris; prepare for these two very determined ladies. They both know exactly what they want and we’re damn sure they’ll get just that…

<<check out some more clashes between these two metropolises>>

News | New York, I Love you

08/22/2011 10:31 AM by Maddie Raedts | Fashiolista News

Big news Fashiolistas, cause it seems like one of my biggest fashion dreams is about to come true! Guess what? I’m about to move to NYC for 5 months! The fabulous city that I fell head over heels with ever since I saw my very first Sex and the City episode.

Picture this: the best coffee-to-go in the morning, sunny days in Central Park, shopping in Soho, clubbing in the Meatpacking district… what else? Any recommendations about places that I should definitely visit are more than welcome!

The best part of all this, is that there are no worries for you, since you won’t have to miss out on any second of my NY adventures. I will keep track of a weekly fashion journal especially for you guys. Of course I will be attending NYFW as well, so basically you will have an exclusive fashion reporter from NYC! It is going to be my very first fashion week abroad, and I couldn’t be more excited. Secretly dreaming about who I might meet…
